The GEFO fleet comprises 148 cutting-edge coastal and inland vessels and covers routes from the northern Baltic to the western Mediterranean including the North-west European waterway network.

For the international majors, we are a Top 3 service provider in every segment. For good reason: Successfully shipping more than 18 million metric tons per year and building on our commitment to rigorous HSSEQ, we continue to register safe and sustainable growth.

GEFO Milestones

1961

GEFO inland oil barging is founded in Hamburg, with the German wirtschaftswunder in full swing.

1971

Expansion into coastal shipping of bulk chemicals with GEFO Deepsea.

1971

GEFO launches its bunker trading operation. Nearly 50 years later, we’re still going strong!

1978

With the acquisition of ATC Antwerp, GEFO chemical operations expand inland.

1986

GEFO expands again. The inland portfolio now includes gas barging.

1988

ATC Antwerp becomes UNITAS United Shipping and Trucking Company N.V.

2014-15

With four new 6,000-dwt chemical tankers, GEFO Deepsea starts its fleet modernization.

2016

GEFO HQ relocates to central Hamburg. The new address: Raboisen 5.

Feb. 2018

GEFO Deepsea orders newbuilding in China. Six chemical tankers at 3,600 dwt each.

Sep. 2018

Another Deepsea order for China. Two 7,000 tonners, by 2020. One with LNG DF Propulsion.

2021

"Tosca" gets into service - the first LNG propelled tanker in her segment.

2022

First multi-purpose barge optimised for low-water-levels and an innovative hybrid propulsion system.
